If you do not continue your studies or have transferred to a degree program that is not the responsibility of the Faculty of Science of the University of Helsinki, you must return the loan device to the local IT support on the Kumpula campus.
Freshman laptops for all years can be returned to the Kumpula campus local IT support. Local support is available on weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm on the 2nd floor of the Exactum building (rooms A221-A224).
At other times, during the opening hours of the property, the device can also be returned to Exactum porters. You do not need to delete your files because the laptop disk will be overwritten before it moves forward. Be sure to make a copy of your files and to return also the charger. Local support can be reached on 02941 44411 (weekdays from 9 am to 3 pm). Please attach a note with your name and the word "freshman laptop" with the laptop and charger, so that the machine can be recorded as returned.
The University of Helsinki takes care of the continued use of returned laptops either on campus or through its partners. You cannot purchase the laptop to be your own.
The Faculty of Science has stated that the freshman devices borrowed in 2014-2017 have reached the end of their service life and it has been decided to remove them from the university's equipment register. Thus, students who borrowed a freshman device in those years can use the device for the rest of it's life. However, the device must not be sold and must be disposed of properly in accordance with local waste regulations or returned to the university following the instructions above. The university no longer provides support for the use of obsolete equipment.
